Danfoss doubles its Apodaca plant with US$100M and seven new production lines

Danfoss inaugurated the expansion of its plant in Apodaca, Nuevo León on November 6, 2025. Apodaca is one of the municipalities that make up the Monterrey metropolitan area, in northern Mexico. The figure the newspaper El Financiero reported that day was US$100 million, with the stated effect of doubling the company's installed capacity in the state.

Ten months later the company itself confirmed the core of that report, narrowed to the factory. Its September 3, 2026 corporate release states that, since the expanded factory opened, it has used the "doubled capacity" to start production of scroll compressors, BOCK compressors, sensors and microchannel heat exchangers. That is no longer a press reading: it is the company describing its own plant a year on.

What was built is measured in lines, not only in square meters

The expansion added 20,000 square meters across three industrial buildings and seven new production lines, geared toward low impact refrigerants. That floor area matches what the state government announced in March 2023, when construction began in Apodaca. The investment figure and the line count come from that day's press coverage, not from a company release.

In September 2026, a shop floor tour published by the trade outlet Mexico Industry counted 13 lines installed at the Apodaca campus. That number appears in no corporate release, but it points to what matters for a supplier: the capacity built in 2025 is filling up with product.

The plant makes refrigeration and air conditioning components: scroll compressors, valves, sensors, heat exchangers and condensing units. El Financiero reported on the day of the opening that between 70% and 80% of that output is exported, primarily to the United States. The same coverage recorded this statement:

Why this note no longer carries a jobs figure

The original version, published on November 6, 2025, said in its headline that Danfoss employment in Nuevo León was going from 1,300 to 1,800 people. That figure circulated in the coverage of the event, this note reproduced it as its own, and no later record supports it. That is why it is out of the headline, the summary and the key facts.

Here is what each source actually said, with its date and its scope:

• March 15, 2023, state government newsroom: when construction began, 400 jobs were projected across 20,000 m². That was a projection for a plant that did not yet exist.
• October 27, 2025, state government newsroom, ten days before the opening: Danfoss has more than 1,600 employees across three plants in Nuevo León, with 40,000 m² added in 2024. That count covers the whole state.
• September 17, 2026, Mexico Industry plant tour: the Apodaca campus went from 800 to 1,300 employees and from 34,000 to 67,000 square meters between 2024 and 2026. That count covers a single campus.

The three measure different perimeters over different periods, so they cannot be compared or subtracted from one another. What is clear is that 1,800 appears in no 2026 source, and that the 1,300 this note published as a starting point for the whole state shows up ten months later as an end point for a single campus. Danfoss A/S is a privately held Danish company with no periodic filings with the US securities regulator against which the number could be checked, so only the company itself can settle it. Until it publishes its own figure, none goes here.

Cooling stopped being about comfort and became an industrial bottleneck

Thermal management is no longer a comfort question. Data center expansion, transport electrification and food cold chains are pushing demand for compressors, exchangers and controls all at once, and that demand cannot be absorbed in a single year.

Apodaca holds several links of that chain within a few kilometers of each other. Munters opened its second plant there, supplying data centers, and Equinix runs its MO2 data center in the same municipality. The compressors leaving Danfoss, the equipment Munters assembles and the heat a data center has to shed are pieces of the same problem, solved by different companies inside the same municipality.

A company doubling the plant it already has, rather than opening a new one somewhere else, is the clearest signal that the surrounding supplier base already works. It is also the pattern we found when reviewing 43 investment announcements made in Nuevo León between 2022 and 2025: expansion is more common than arrival.

A note on place names: the Danfoss corporate release locates the factory in "Monterrey, Mexico". The company's own plant directory gives the address in Apodaca, Nuevo León, inside the Monterrey metropolitan area.

Update, September 25, 2026: the jobs figure "from 1,300 to 1,800" was removed from the headline, the summary and the key facts, since no later source supports it, and what each source said was added with its date and its scope. The company's own confirmation of the doubled capacity was also added, and the investment figure, the line count and the export share were attributed to their source. The investment amount, the floor area, the number of new lines and the municipality did not change.
