Doowon Refrigeration inaugurated its first plant in Mexico, in Apodaca, Nuevo León, with an initial investment of US$18 million and 100 direct jobs, according to the official announcement of December 4, 2024. The company projected an additional US$25 million for the next stage.

The plant manufactures automotive air intake systems, engine air filters, and hose and piping systems for air conditioning.

"Doowon's presence in Nuevo León strengthens our position as a magnet for world class companies in the automotive industry."

Emmanuel Loo, Nuevo León Ministry of Economy

The Korean chain keeps growing

Doowon is one more piece of a pattern a decade in the making: the network of Korean suppliers around Kia's plant in Pesquería. Dayou makes steering wheels in Santa Catarina, Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai WIA produce modules and engines, Seojin Mobility opened its electric motor components plant in Escobedo in 2025, and in 2026 Kia started production of the EV3, the first electric car made in Mexico.

Each supplier that lands shortens the chain for the next one. For a Korean company evaluating North America, Nuevo León is no longer a bet: it is where its supply chain already lives.
