Forvia, the French group formerly known as Faurecia, announced its Apodaca plant in May 2022 and opened it on March 30, 2023. Ten months. It is one of the shortest gaps between announcement and ribbon cutting we have verified in Nuevo León.
The investment was US$147 million in the first phase, with 1,500 jobs and a 33,500 m² campus, more than 20,000 of it production floor, at Nexxus Industrial Park.
What is made there
Three lines: seat structures, dashboards and center consoles. Installed capacity gives the real sense of scale: the seating division can supply two million vehicles a year, and the interiors division more than 700,000 products.
Customers include Stellantis and Volvo, alongside North American brands. Coverage of the opening also mentioned Tesla.
Why this case explains nearshoring better than a speech
The seat structure line now running in Apodaca was previously produced in Highland Park, Michigan. No new demand was invented: it is the same line, for the same customers, operating from a different point on the continent.
That is what it means for a supply chain to reorganize. It is not about who wins and who loses, but about North American automakers placing their suppliers closer to where they assemble, with Nuevo León falling inside that radius. Frank Huber, of the seating division, summed it up at the opening: "Monterrey is in the perfect location for this."
The green plant
Forvia presented it as a facility built to sustainable construction criteria: bioclimatic design, energy efficiency measures and water recovery systems, aligned with the group's carbon neutrality goal. The operation also runs 60 welding robots.
It is the same pattern repeating across the state in new plants of this size, and one we already saw in Siemens' LEED Platinum certification in Santa Catarina: efficiency stopped being an extra and became part of the design.
