Naturgy announced an investment of MXN$5.5 billion to expand its natural gas network in Nuevo León, per the announcement of May 21, 2026. The company itself sized the commitment at more than €300 million directed at expanding that network.
Why a pipeline story is an industrial story
Investment news is usually measured in plant jobs. This one is measured in something else: the capacity to connect whoever comes next.
Natural gas is the energy input for entire thermal processes, furnaces, boilers, drying, treatment, and in many sectors it weighs more on cost than electricity does. When the network does not reach a site, the company evaluating it has three ways out and none of them good: pay for the extension, operate on more expensive fuels, or go elsewhere.
Expanding the network is, in practice, making industrial land viable that today is not competitive.
What to check if you are evaluating a location
Natural gas availability is not uniform across the state, and it does not always coincide with land or building availability. It is one of the variables most often reviewed late in the site selection process, once time has already been invested in an option.
- Start with Nuevo León's energy overview.
- Browse the map of industrial parks, with availability by municipality.
- Review options for industrial buildings, land and build-to-suit.
