Equinix opens its MO2 data center in Apodaca with a US$250M investment

Equinix inaugurated its MO2 data center in Apodaca, Nuevo León, with an investment of US$250 million and the creation of 500 jobs, according to the official announcement of October 28, 2025.

The facility sits in Nexxus Aeropuerto Industrial Park. Its first phase has been operating since September 2025, and the project contemplates expansion through 2030.

What a data center like this does

MO2 provides digital infrastructure: data interconnection and cloud services for companies operating in the region. In practice, it is the kind of facility that lets a corporation, a bank or a manufacturer keep its systems close by, with lower latency and under Mexican jurisdiction.

Equinix is one of the largest data center operators in the world, with more than 260 facilities across 33 countries. Choosing Apodaca to grow in Mexico is a signal of where northern Mexico's digital infrastructure is heading.

What it means for the state

Nuevo León has historically been a small data center market compared with Querétaro, which concentrates most of the national capacity. A facility of this scale starts to shift that ratio, and it arrives surrounded by an ecosystem that already exists here: the state manufactures and exports transformers, power systems and cooling equipment, precisely the inputs a data center consumes.
